The Power of Pushkin: Russia, USSR, and Beyond

This course, taught in English and with readings in translation, explores the literary works of Alexander Pushkin as well as Pushkin's elevated place in the culture(s) of pre-revolutionary Russia, the Soviet Union, and post-Soviet Russia. We will also study Pushkin's connection to Africa and to African American writers of the early twentieth century.
