Classics of Russian Literature and Textual Culture

Reading and writing about the classical works of Russian literature with intensive textual analysis, including prose (short stories and povesti), poetry, essays, fiction and nonfiction of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Authors include Pushkin, Gogol, Lermontov, Turgenev, L. Tolstoy, Chekhov, Bunin. Writing component will develop expository prose style and rhetorical strategies. Taught in Russian. Recommended prerequisite: Russian 707 and 708.
